Steven A. Lowe thought he invented object-oriented programming in 1984 while trying to coax a Commodore 64 into becoming a 2D CAD platform. A random encounter with an issue of Byte Magazine cleared up that misconception: SmallTalk was featured on the cover! A brief online encounter with Grady Booch further reinforced not only that these concepts were not new, but that they were an inevitable step in the evolution of programming languages. The design and implementation of a few object-oriented programming languages and relentless use and refinement of the concepts enhanced the initial discoveries.  Since then, twenty-five years of practical applications development has provided a unique perspective on the concepts, applications, pitfalls, and advantages of this essential, inevitable programming paradigm.
